Adult Captain America Costume

Since you have found your way here you must either be a die-hard fan of the Captain America comic books first written in the 1940s by Marvel Comics or you saw the blockbuster film of the "Captain America: The First Avenger" movie and became an instant fan.

Personally, I am more of a semi-homemade costumer. I do not like to buy one-time use cheap costumes made with really thin nylon fabric. I prefer well tailor costumes which can be worn more than once and I want them to be high-quality cosplay or theatrical type costumes.

I like to scour thrift stores, garage sales, consignment shops, Etsy and eBay looking for authentic-looking pieces to use for my costume. I will only buy items that look better than what I can make at home.

If you can sew, it would be possible to make a more authentic costume at home. If I were going to make a Captain American costume, I would have to make the shield and belt buckle too.

Either way, a semi-homemade costume or a high quality cosplay theatrical costume, I have done my diligence to locate the best Captain America costume for you to wear on patriotic holidays, to cosplay events or as a Halloween costume.

It will save you time and money since you won't have to find all of the fabric and accessories needed to make a costume at home to get the quality you want..

Keep in mind there are only two really important things to remember when searching for a costume, or the pieces to create one.

Other than the costume, there are 5 vital accessories needed to make the Captain America character come to life.

1. The Blue Helmet Mask
2. The Red, White and Blue Capt. America Shield
3. The Red Boots
4. The Utility Belt
5. The red Gauntlet Gloves

Paying attention to details with the use of accessories are what makes or breaks a costume. If not planning to make a homemade costume full of detailing, be sure to order your costume far enough in advance to be able to asses the accessories and make adjustments where needed.

Additional accessories for Captain America that are fun to have, but not necessary:

3. Captain America Leather jacket

This is a good quality Captain America costume, with lots of detailing in the design of the costume. It is one of the better ready made costumes.

The costume consist of a jumpsuit, a pair of gloves with sewn-on gauntlet covers, a vinyl utility belt, a pair of boot covers and a vinyl mask. The shield is NOT included.

There are a few cons to the quality of this costume.

In my mind, a theatrical quality costume does not use vinyl shoe covers. To me they look tacky and do not add to the authenticity of the costume. I would buy a real pair of red boots to wear instead of the shoe covers.

Personally, I would not use the vinyl mask either. I have seen better masks sold on Amazon as separate pieces. Do a search for a "Captain America Adult Mask" to see what I'm talking about..

If you have the time, I would also seek out a better pair of gauntlet gloves to wear with the costume, but that is just me. I want my costumes to be as authentic as possible.

Overall it is a good looking costume, but the accessories should be replace with better quality pieces.

With that being said the people who have bought the costume love it.

The Capt. America shield is not included with any Captain America costume, but I think it is an accessory that is a "must have" to complete the look of the costume.

I mean, after all, don't you think Captain America would look kinda silly walking around without his shield to protect himself? Yeah, me too.

The Captain America Shields I have seen online can run anywhere from $40 upwards to $1000. Making your own shield at home can save a lot of dollars from your costume budget.

Each video uses different materials for the shield and the tutorials are pretty simple as long as you have some skill experience with a drill, a Dremel and paint. The cost of making one is comparable to a cheap ready made one.

Rather just buy one ready made? The shield featured on the right is a middle-of-the-road price of a higher quality, durable PC & ABS plastic than the less expensive cheaper grade plastic versions.

One of the things I really like is the adjustable straps. It can be carried in the hand or slung across the back.

These are the boots I would wear with my Captain American costume, rather than the shoe covers. I like that they can be worn with other superhero costumes too.

This Captain America costume for adult women is a polyester/spandex bodysuit made to hug the body snugly while showing off every sexy curve.

The accessories are not included (except for the cheezy hat) so you will have to purchase red gloves, red boots and a shield to finish the costume.

I would also suggest buying a blue mask to replace the hat too.
